3 Essentials to Hack Your Snow Day: Socks, Cooking Spray and...Vodka?

Call me crazy, but I still get as excited about snow days as I did as a child. The thought of spending bonus time with family and friends, playing in the snow, and sipping (spiked) hot chocolate while watching the serene snowy landscape outside always puts a smile on my face. An outdoor hot tub is a big help too.
On the other hand, as adults we also know that the snow can be a serious hassle when it piles up on our driveways, sidewalks and cars, and we have no choice but to get out there and do the shovel dance...
But help is here! Next time you head out into the snow, just make sure you have these 3 items and your snow day life around the house will be MUCH easier.
SOCKS

Yes they'll keep your feet warm, but that's not a very exciting hack...
1 - Wear a Pair OVER Your Boots
Sounds silly, but any old pair of socks will give extra traction and help avoid slipping while you shovel.
2 - Slip a Pair Over Your Windshield Wipers
Simply cover your wipers before the storm, and they won't freeze to the windshield. They'll also keep the blades themselves from icing over if you stand the wipers up prior to the storm.
3 - Fill a Sock With Kitty Litter
Strange, but simple and effective. Just leave it in the car, or in small rooms in the house that often fog up. It will absorb moisture and keep the windows from fogging up and freezing. Sounds gross? Try using the clean stuff before the cat gets to it... ;-)
COOKING SPRAY

1 - Spray Your Shovel
A quick spray on your shovel or plow will keep the snow from sticking and help lighten your load.
2 - Spray The Car!
Well...not the whole car. But think about the parts that often freeze shut - like doors and the trunk. Spray the interior rubber lining before the storm and never pick at an icy door again.
VODKA

A shot of vodka will definitely help you feel warmer on a cold snowy day...and will generally make any day more fun. But here are a couple of hacks to help with the ice too... ;-)
1 - Keep Windows Fog Free
Pour 2 parts vodka (or rubbing alcohol if you don't want to waste the good stuff) and one part water into a spray bottle, and wipe onto any window in the house or car. It'll keep the fog away and avoid frost.
2 - Never Scrape Icy Windows Again!
Just spray onto an icy home or car window and watch the ice melt in seconds. Just wipe it off and get on with your day.
Hope these snow hacks help make your snow days a little happier! What other hacks make your snow day easier?
